Niir by Ella Blake
The job seemed simple: Rescue fourteen abducted females and return them to their settlement.

Communications officer Niir Gosk is the picture of diplomacy and skillful negotiation, but few know the brutal mercenary's life he once led. He constantly fights to keep his deadly primal form--lurking in the soul of all Virilians--from permanently transforming him into a monster. He has it mostly under control, until the rescued females are brought aboard the ship. Nothing about them adds up, from the destroyed planet they claim to be from, to the extinct language they speak.

A blue-haired female named Calinae is the only one who speaks the universal language. One look at her is all it takes for his Virilian instincts to declare her his mate. Unfortunately, Calinae is betrothed to the warlord who hired them.

Cali is unsure what to make of the tall, muscular Virilians sent to return them to their warlord leader--and her betrothed. Niir is big and scarred and asks questions she can't answer. It quickly becomes clear that she has been fed a lifetime of lies. As the ship flies ever closer to the rendezvous point, Cali must decide whether or not to trust the Virilians and change her fate, or follow the path laid out for her from birth. The more time she spends with Niir, the more she is drawn to the huge alien with the cool gray eyes, whose body and mind she longs to explore.

It takes all Niir's will to restrain his deepening desire for Calinae as he tries to suppress his primal form and solve the mystery of the females' origins. The more he unravels their past, the more dangerous the future looks for them all, especially Calinae, who Niir will give everything to protect. Old enemies hide in plain sight and surprise allies appear when they're least expected. It's always a sexy adventure when Virilians come out to play!

This story is part of the Virilian Mail Order Mates series but can be read alone with no cliffhangers and no cheating. I write what I love to read, so there is always consent and always a happy ending.
