Namaka by Tanya Allan

Just as Covid-19 emerges, Captain Alec Grant (RN) received the news from the authorities in Hawaii that his daughter had been reported missing under strange circumstances. Sabrina Grant had been one of a small group of British university students on an archaeological trip to a remote island in the archipelago when she reportedly vanished whilst inside a cave,

There had been a camera set up outside the cave mouth, and she was clearly seen entering but never exiting.

Her parents were always somewhat concerned about her welfare, as Sabrina's life had not been an easy one. Having been born a boy, Sabrina (known as Stephen) had to fight to become as close as she could to the person she felt she was. Having sympathetic parents was a great help, as well as the finances and the right medical intervention to ensure that by the time she went to university, she was through the tough bits and could live her life as Sabrina.

The only fears were in her mind, as she so often became so close to forming a lasting relationship before her own fears caused her to cut and run before sharing the terrible secret she felt festered in her mind.

It was, therefore, something of a shock when her mother opened the front door to see her daughter standing there looking absolutely radiant and obviously several months pregnant.

Nothing could have prepared her parents for the fact that Sabrina was not only now a genetic female and pregnant, but also possesses a Polynesian husband from around the tenth century and had the ability to travel through time!

Her story?

Well, it all started with a small, turtle pendant…
