CHAIN REACTION: A Technothriller by Gerald M. Kilby

** BRAND NEW FOR 2022! This Seventh Anniversary Edition brings you a completely revised technothriller adventure, along with some great never-before-seen content — created especially for this new edition — including an in depth author retrospective. **

Random events ignite a chain reaction with deadly consequences.

A lone yachtsman witnesses a murder on board a luxury super yacht while making port in the glamorous principality of Monaco. He’s there to meet his daughter who’s part of the army of global media arriving in the south of France to witness the launch of the world’s first fully sustainable fusion reactor, ITER, and what they hope will be the dawn of a new golden age for humanity.

But in his efforts to persuade the authorities that a murder has taken place, he begins to uncover what he suspects is a clandestine plot by foreign agents to ensure that the most complex machine ever constructed, and all who have gathered there to report on this historic event, end up as a cloud of irradiated dust.

To make matters worse, he soon becomes a target to be eliminated. Yet he must somehow stay alive long enough to convince the authorities the plot is real and to act before it’s too late. Because if he fails, then his own daughter will be dead.

Ignition in T minus 36 hours…

Author’s Note

I recently read a book by Arthur C. Clarke, The City and the Stars, and discovered that it was an extensive revision of his first novel, Against the Fall of Night. Apparently, he revisited the book several years after becoming an accomplished sci-fi author and realized that he had improved considerably as a writer in the intervening period.

This got me thinking, and I soon found myself revisiting my very first novel, Fusion (later split into Reaction & Extraction), having written twelve other books since then. I’ve always enjoyed the characters, they have a special place in my heart, and so I took great pleasure in revisiting their story and giving them the book they truly deserve.

Some scenes have been removed and new additions have been written. What’s more, every sentence and ever paragraph in the novel has been gone over with a fine-toothed comb and honed to the best of my story telling ability. In the end, while it’s still essentially the same story, I feel it’s now the technothriller I had always wanted to write all those years ago, but just couldn’t quite get there.

Enjoy!
