The Survivors Part 1: The Massacre

There is no absolute right or wrong. There is only the strength to impose your will and force others to live as you command them to.

Taereun: Battleground of the Damned was never really a game. It was an experiment created by The Nameless God to find Minds and Souls he could use as his tools. For tens of thousands of players, what they thought was a game became reality. They were trapped in the bodies of their characters and given a quest by The Nameless God told. If they succeeded they would be returned to their real bodies. After fighting through the Lands of Despair in the Labyrinth of Yggr for over eleven years, they had one last battle. When the battle was almost over, Mark McGuinness was murdered by a group of the other players.

After thinking he was dead, Mark woke up in a hospital in his original body, the last place he wanted to be. He was the only survivor of The Nameless God's test. H is a freak whose body rejects most medical treatments. As a child, he was in an automobile accident, which left him scarred and disfigured. Angry, bitter and disgusted with the Earth, he had used Taereun: Battleground of the Damned as a way to take out his frustration and anger, so he would not lose control and hurt or kill someone at the wrong time. The closest he had ever come to being happy was living as Talon, during the search for Haven. He had never wanted to see Earth again.

Having learned about the Power called Ki, Mark McGuinness discovers that his human body is capable of channeling and using it. Once again armed with Power, he takes the name Brand for himself and sets sets out to travel from Earth to Taereun. He has questions he wants answered and people he owes. Whether mortal or divine, he will destroy anyone and anything that stands in his way.
